What we collect

You can browse public book collections without an account. If you create an account, we use your email address and password to sign you in through Firebase Authentication. We do not receive or store your password in our book database.

When you use the app, you may save reading status, dates, ownership, recommendations, and notes. If you add a book yourself, we save the title, author, and any publication information you enter. Those records are connected to your account when you sign in.

Guest records and cloud backup

While browsing as a guest, reading records are saved on your device. They are not backed up to an account unless you choose to bring them into one. Removing the app or clearing its storage can remove guest records.

Signed-in reading records and personally added books are saved on your device and synchronized with our Firebase database so you can recover them when signing in again. The curated book catalog is shared content; your private records are stored separately from it.

How we use and share information

We use account and reading information to provide the app, synchronize your library, respond to support requests, and protect the service. We do not sell your reading records or use them for advertising.

Firebase, a Google service, provides authentication, database storage, and website hosting. It processes the information needed to deliver those services. Our website may generate ordinary hosting logs such as request and network information.

We use PostHog product analytics in the app to understand which sections readers visit, how long the app stays open on each section, and whether actions such as opening a collection, adding a book, or saving a reading record succeed. Events may include a curated collection identifier, reading-status category, app and device information, and an analytics identifier. For signed-in readers, that identifier is linked to the account's Firebase user ID; guests are measured with a device-based identifier. We do not send book titles, authors, notes, search text, email addresses, or passwords as analytics event details. Foreground time can include time when the app is open but idle. We do not use session recordings or automatic tap capture.

Your choices

You can edit your reading records in the app. You can sign out at any time. To ask for a copy of your account data or request that your account and its cloud records be deleted, email support@hikertrash.app. We will verify that the request comes from the account owner before acting on it.

Guest records stay on your device and can be removed by deleting the app or clearing its local data. We keep account records while the account is active or as needed to operate the service, resolve support requests, and meet applicable obligations.

Using the app

Terms of service

Reader's Record is currently being tested with a small group. You may browse its collections and keep a personal reading record. Please use the service lawfully and do not attempt to access another reader's account or disrupt the service.

Book details and curated lists are provided for discovery and personal organization. We work to keep them accurate, but they may contain mistakes or change as we verify sources. You remain responsible for the notes and book details you enter.

The service may be updated, interrupted, or changed during testing. If you need help or want to stop using it, visit Support or email support@hikertrash.app.
